This blog is dedicated to a hobby and potentially a small business with the goal of purchasing a laser used to primarily engrave pictures and small items less than 16″ square using thin (3/8 inch or 3 mm) plywood. This project will ducument the steps in not only making items with the laser but the process of selecting installing and getting the machine how a process an understanding in the process of implimenting

At this stage the machine has been selected is an Ikier K1 Promax 48w/24W laser engraving and cutting machine. Click the link to read more on the machine selection process.

A secondary but very important part of the process is having the ability to produce anything, is software. The machine has internal software to make it move in x,y and z axis but LightBurn allows you to tell the machine how much power and speed to apply to a given affect (an effect might be to engrave a person’s name or another affect might be to cut the perimeter of the design out of the plywood.
